My family has known Coach Tyrone McGriff for over 13 years in various roles and capacities, in which he has served as a PE Teacher, Athletic Director, coach, mentor, motivator, and trainer in my children's lives. As a servant leader, he has always challenged my children to be elite athletes and encouraged them to be the best versions of themselves, whether it's in the classroom, community, on the track, court, or field. He provided them with intense workouts where he researched the science behind gaining peak performances and coached them through intense training sessions which assisted them with getting stronger and faster. During the pandemic, one of my children was not receiving athletic scholarship offers in the manner in which we anticipated. Coach McGriff reached out to his network to assist. I came to Tallahassee in 2015 after accepting a sports director position at WTXL, the ABC affiliate for the area. I met Tyrone McGriff shortly after, interviewing him for a story on one of Florida High's track and field athletes. I worked more closely with Tyrone in 2017, after he was named athletic director at Florida High, coordinating interviews and stories about the Seminoles. One thing about Tyrone? If you called, he answered. If you needed something, he delivered. If I had a historical question, he had the facts, and if he didn't, he researched until he found it. That working relationship continued as he advanced in his career at Florida High, and later as he took on the role as head football coach at Leon High School. Working with Tyrone was a pleasure. Seeing him thrive on, and off, the field was a joy, and I'm thrilled for all the things that await him. I fully expect him to achieve everything he sets his mind too with the same grit and determination that led him to this point in the first place - all with a smile on his face, and awaiting our phone calls if we ever need anything, just as always has.
